ANDY CROLLS MATCH REPORT
Coming out of the traps like a greased
greyhound, TGA dominated this crucial
fixture and secured themselves the playoff
birth for an assault at division 2.
As always the sun beat down
on ’Singapore’s finest non-floating pitch’ but
for once TGA were not the outnumbered
side, we had to give Playouts 15 mintues to
enable their full eleven to arrive.
With Darren acting as centre-back and
extremely vocal coach TGA played some
terrific passing football, linking up defence,
midfield and attack. We kept it on the
ground much better than in recent games
and our quality showed.
AJ and Morley were breaking everything up
in the midfield and releasing the forwards
and our wide men, Henry and Kamal, to
attack a slightly nervy backline. Interlinking
passing sent Sunil down the left and his
bobbling cross met Yohann’s emphatic boot
and we were one-nil up.
Yohann was to score again soon after as a
move started by distribution by Cuong and
worked quickly through the midfield found
him in a nearly identical position and once
again he found the net. It was only a quality
save that prevented a Gazelle hat trick, the
Playouts keeper at full stretch to palm a
volley around the top corner.
One final moment of magic saw the ball
rolled to Jacko on the touchline 30 yards
out, he sent it high and long towards the far
post and Morley getting forward. Shockingly
team-daddy took his foot off the pedal to
the dismay of his team-mates. However
he’d seen the comedy double take of the
goalie, about to have a David Seaman vs.
Ronaldinho/Nayim moment as the ball
dropped into the side netting. A spectacular
goal.
Half-time came with TGA in control. AJ and
Sunil were both done by aggravated
injuries, leaving room for Mackenzie and
debutante Nick to play their part in the
second half.
An unsteady start as Playouts came looking
for goals and our changes bedded in, but
the back four of Croll, Jacko, Darren and
Boland remained resolute with Cuong
having one of his quieter afternoons of the
year, only having to deal with the odd
overhit through ball. Chris Roberts, after a
first half cameo up front, slotted into
defence and Kiwi Steve made a typical self-
comentated cameo at left back.
Some good football and Nick put in a hell of
a shift, trying to do 80 minutes of running in
only one half, very much defining a box-to-
box player.
No goals, as the game petered out
somewhat as the sun took it’s toll on both
the demoralised Playouts and the mighty
TGA who even played some decent keep
ball.
So, a shot at promotion (playoff likely in
early December) after the return fixture
against the same opposition later in the
month. Nice work lads – division 2 here we
come?
