Saturday saw us host Standard Charted at
the new Farer Park Fortress, in our past few
games TGA have been solid at the back but
have had trouble putting the ball in the net,
which was justification for the Spanish style
4-1-4-1 formation that we started off with,
we were aware of the the tall French lad
who makes Standard Chartered tick so we
stuck our engine Stu Avery on him to
effectively take him out of the game and
stop anything coming through.

The first half started well with TGA
confidently passing the ball around and
having the lions share of possession, we
created a lot of chances in the first 15
minutes and were unlucky not to be 1 or 2
nil up in the first quarter, great work from
Goodwin and Henry C down the left causing
SC lots of problems; we defended from the
front line with the forward trio of Roberts,
Sunil and Shankar constantly pressuring
SC’s back 4 and winning a lot of balls in
their half, however a few lapses in
concentration saw SC enter our box but the
back 4 and Peggsy took care of business.

The first goal saw came from a long
Shardlow throw in, Goodwin flicked it on and
Jacko found himself in the right place at the
right time, our make shift Right winger
found space, took a touch and neatly placed
the ball in the bottom corner to put us 1-0
up.

We controlled the game for the rest of the
first half and came off 1-0 up, we changed
to a traditional 4-4-2 at half time after
realising that the centre circle had only been
occupied by their number 7, and Stu ‘The
Engine’ Avery was given a free role with
Shankar dropping into the centre of the park
to put in some more of the well timed
challenges he did in the first half.

The second half saw us come out with an
unchanged 11, we were pressing in all areas
of the pitch and their French lad was not
seeing too much of the ball, some great
work from Rahol our footballing centre half
and Pete our new no nonsense defender
saw the back 4 playing a very disciplined
line dropping in and covering where needed.

Still not yet out of 2nd gear and stroking the
ball around the pitch Stu ‘The Engine’ Avery
picked up the ball just inside our half and
gave twisted blood to 4 Standard Chartered
players followed by a well placed cross
which was met with the ferocious right foot
of Red Socks – TGA 2 – 0 SC.

Playing with confidence and plenty of banter
TGA continued to push forward at every
opportunity and another massive
(apparently placed) clearance from Pete
was met by Chris Roberts who adjusted his
body and hit the ball on the volley to
produce an exquisite finish (contender for
Goal of the season), leaving the goal keeper
wondering how the hell the ball left Roberts
foot and ended up in the onion bag before
he could even see it – 2 touch football?
Have a word! TGA 3 – 0 SC

The clutch went down and CS were now
cruising in 3rd gear, some more great work
down the left from Henry C and Ben
Goodwin followed by a goal mouth scramble
ended up with Stu ‘The Engine’ Avery
nonchalantly flicking the ball with the outside
of his boot into the back of the net which
was the icing on the cake of the
performance he put in TGA 4 – 0 SC.

Man Of The Match went to our Engine Stu
Avery, covering every inch of the pitch and
controlling the midfield, special mention to
Rahul and Pete two other contenders for
MOM who are forging a very solid
partnership at the back.

Well played lads, let’s keep this momentum
going
