This was a highly anticipated game against last years Division 7 winners. A team that had beaten TGA on both occasions on which we met last season. \012\012Numbers were a little short with only one available substitute, but buoyed by a fantastic turn out of supporters (who \012crucially brought beer) the team seemed \012well up for this one. Taking to the field on an extremely hot day, TGA got out of the blocks fast and were playing the ball around in the Afifi half. We \012were enjoying the possession, and we \012almost took a very early lead with Frank glancing a header onto the upright. A quick break by Afifi saw ‘100% Hutton’ chase back \012a left winger who would make Asafa Powell look pedestrian, but Hutton’s excellent position and superior gut saw him pull off an astonishing tackle which was very unfairly punished with a yellow. \012\012TGA continued to play the ball but always dangerous on the break, Afifi burst through in the 15th minute only to find France’s 109th choice keeper Benoit in sparkling form to pull off top quality reaction save. It was another 10 mins before Afifi found \012their way into our box, but there they were met by returning TGA hero Boland, who put in a Bobby Moore-esque tackle to win back the ball. It was great to have Gary back and his commanding vocals were driving us forward. \012\012We came out after the break knowing we \012could nick this. A rather naughty challenge from Sickboy Laird (who lived up to the hype and vommed on the pitch) brought him a booking, but at this point we were going forward in waves, with Sickboy himself often the outlet down the right. Some outrageous showboating from him drew gasps from the sidelines and envious looks from the opponents. Soon a tireless Hutton broke through up front but was scythed down, re-enacting what could have been a scene from Platoon. ‘Play on’ said the ref and the ball was swept left. An in form Chay took the ball on his chest before unleashing a rasping left foot volley from 20 yards. The crowd \012went berserk as the keeper got fingertips to it and pushed it onto the bar. Chay had been everywhere on the left-hand side and his all action display earned him the man-of-\012the-match. \012\012The commitment was total from both sides. Neil had to come off with a gigantic 1mm cat scratch on the face, and Boland was rather upset by a high foot, which he politely explained to the ref resulting in his yellow card, but we closed the game out well. All things considered we were pleased with a clean sheet and we are looking forward to playing Afifi again soon. \012\012
