British Exiles 0-2 TGA

Sun, 14 September - 8:00 AM at Cantonment Pitch

ESPZEN Sunday League: Division 5

We kicked off the second half of the season as we did the first, with a competitive game against a well organised Exiles side. We welcomed back the heavily sun-tanned Sunil from his Sicilian sojourn, and although his \012own doubts over his fitness were confirmed after 25 mins, his chunder break was well deserved as he was exceptional going forward time and again into the opposition box. His time on the pitch more than enough to get his customary yellow for dissent. \012\012Blessed with fullbacks who can play and talented wingers, TGA were confident we’d have success down the flanks. Foot-high grass disguising potholes pretty much put paid to this as Lev and Matt had to push more centrally. \012\012Clearly bored of me writing up his headed goals, TGA’s most fertile Ben Morley swivelled on a bouncing ball that found him in the 16 yard box and punched the ball past the again impressive Exiles keeper. \012\012On a number of occasions he was to thwart TGA attacks and even pulled off an excellent fingertip save after a whipping free-kick from Lev. \012\012At half time we felt we were doing enough to control the game, but 1-0 is never safe and we went out after the break searching for that nerve calming second goal. Benoit thought he had scored as he struck the bar with a shot recorded at 118 mph, Silky Sutton was being given far to much time and space on the ball and as he danced across the front of the box from right to left his 20 yard shot was again only kept out by the crossbar. Not to be denied however, Matt picked up the ball in the same spot, retraced his steps and this time fired low across the goal and picked out the bottom corner. 2-0. \012\012The Voice came on and showed some neat touches, even daring to break into the box himself. There was a collective holding of breath on the sideline as he looked to pull the trigger… i’m sure the pitch was to blame as the ball stuck under his feet at the final moment ;-) \012\012Sickboy just shaded Man-of-the-match for the yards he covered, tirelessly getting back to disrupt the Exiles midfield. TGA’s defence all deserve a mention, Dom won headers all day, Boland was water-tight, Phil grew in confidence as the game drew on and put some fantastic balls into the box, and Weaver does not look like a player who has been out for 6 months with maybe 3 games under his belt. Outstanding work and still only 2 goals conceded in the league this year ! \012\012Thanks to Exiles for another well fought and friendly game. We hope the rest of the season goes well for you. \012
